Mikan Watch #70: Tari Tari

From… I think it was episode 5? I can’t quite remember – somehow I managed to not watch last weeks episode until this weeks was already available, so it’s all kind of blurred into one.

I can’t really say I have much to say about Tari Tari. It’s a pleasant show. It’s rather less blunt about it’s drama than Kokoro Connect, and comes across as being a little less methodical about it (at least, it doesn’t have characters pretty much pointing out that others are sorting out characters issues in order). Not that I wouldn’t cut Kokoroco some slack on both matters due to it’s rather more supernatural setting, nor that it particular bears any real comparison to Tari Tari beyond a certain amount of tonal similarity, but since I’m short of anything in particular to write about here I’m perfectly happy to clutch at straws.

Mikan Watch #69: YuruYuri

From episode eight of the original series, somewhat hidden on the far left hand side there.

As if proof of the force being strong in this one was required, I pretty much just clicked on this episode randomly on Crunchyroll whilst pondering how far through the show I’d actually watched, and *BAM*, within thirty seconds this revealed itself.

As for the show itself, it’s one of those things I didn’t feel particularly strongly about either way – it didn’t present itself as a particularly offensive way to waste some time, but I didn’t particularly love it either. I suppose that’s why I only managed to make it up to episode six or so – I probably just forgot to watch it one week and didn’t care enough to catch back up on it. Suppose I might check out at least the OP of the second season just to see what the OP is like, though it is another one of those shows utilising unpronounceable sequel identifiers.

Mikan Watch #68: Sketchbook ~full color’S~

Another submission from King Author (has that joke died yet?), which I suppose means that I’ve rather been slacking in my own efforts recently. To quote the relevant matters from his e-mail…

Yep, that one. I tend to omit ~full colors~, because it’s dumb and the title is unambiguous. It is from ep.13. I do not remember this character appearing before or after, and have no idea who she is.

Except, the title seems to be even dumber than he suggests, given it’s punctuated with a “‘S” at the end.

Mikan Watch #67: Carnival Phantasm

From Carnival Phantasm EX (a particular instalment I’ve yet to see), this example of a box-as-armour was submitted by King Author over a month ago now.

Which apparently is around about the last time I updated this blog, a move which was not entirely intentional – I could have sworn that I’d updated just a couple of weeks ago, but I guess I’ve been consistently telling myself that for the best part of the last month. Whoops.

Also, the amusing not-actually-irony of someone who seems to have conceptual issues with iM@S pointing out that I’ve not updated recently isn’t entirely lost on me.

Mikan Watch #66: Bodacious Space Pirates

Posted by DiGiKerot in Mikan Watch at May 7, 2012 on 3:26 pm

From Episode 18 of Bodacious Space Pirates, being used as a platform by Ai, who is clearly too short to reach the ships wheel without it. They aren’t just regular Mikan either, they’re Uchu (Space) Mikan. What, precisely, makes them Space Mikan as opposed to Regular Mikan is, I fear, going to remain the shows greatest mystery until it’s conclusion.

It is also unclear as to whether the Mikan contained within the box are as bodacious as the pirates who stand upon them (though, saying that, I rather suspect that Mr. Show fulfils a large percentage of the shows quotient of bodaciousness, rather than the pirates themselves).
