Mikan Watch #10: Genshiken
You know, it almost feels like cheating for me to do a Mikan Watch post for Genshiken, not least because I’ve mentioned it before. That wasn’t in a Mikan Watch post, though, so I’m doing it anyway.
In actuality, this is all really just a cover so that I can post a screen-grab from Kujibiki Unbalance TV without this actually looking like a Kujibiki Unbalance TV post.
Capped for truth.
I realise that this statement will probably destroy any meagre thread of credibility my opinion my hold, but you know what, I really don’t think Kujibiki Unbalance TV is that bad – I’m not really sure I get why it gets so much hate.
It’s actually kind of fun, and I find the fact that most of the fanservice is provided in the form of Kamishakujii panty-flashes – something which only ever appears to happen at the most dramatically inappropriate moments – oddly amusing. I guess it’s trying to say something clever and satirical about fanservice in anime, but honestly the shows just a mix of tedious clichés, hyper-exaggerated clichés and the hyper-dumb. Nowhere near as insane, daft or exaggerated as the OAVs mind you, aside from Kamishakujiis tsuntsuntsuntsunderederederedere-ness, but it still ticks those boxes.
Still, I probably wouldn’t be grabbing the DVDs if I didn’t want the included Genshiken OAVs. That’s what I’m going to claim at least…
