Mikan Watch #138: Eden of the East

From the Eden of the East movie King of Eden. I have no idea why he has it on a boat like that either. Presumably just so he can pose dramatically or something.

I actually made note of this during an all-night anime movie event a good few years ago now, but the movie wasn’t available for home release at the time, so I pretty much just put it to the side and promptly forgot about it until I started searching my own Twitter feed.

Eden of the East is a great TV show, and a pair of movies where I’ve not actually ever bothered the get around to watching the second one, Paradise Lost. Take that as you will, I guess.

(PS – The new Star Wars movie is literally the worst blockbuster I’ve seen in years, and I’ve seen most the DC movies. Yowzer is it bad)

Mikan Watch #137: Senko-san

From episode 1 of The Helpful Fox Senko-san. I think Author pointed this one out to me – it’s certainly not a show I watched personally, at least!

Anyway, full of busy today, so I’ll leave this one at that!

Mikan Watch #136: Fun Fun Pharmacy

From episode 33 of Fushigi Mahou Fun Fun Pharmacy, a show I mostly ended up watching because it’s a charming thing that Igarashi did episode direction for a bunch of episodes of around about the time that he was also working on the first season of Ojamajo Doremi, a show which is in a similar ilk, albeit with a very different sense of humour to it.

Although it is, I guess, worth noting that the show is based on a novel by Sachiko Kashiwaba. I have no idea how faithful it is to that book, admittedly, though in general I get the feeling that Kashiwaba is one of those authors that is so widely read among at least the folks that direct Japanese childrens cartoons that her influence is likely all over the stuff that isn’t even explicitly based on her books. Heck, there was a bit of an old to-do over Spirited Away bearing more than a little resemblance to one of her novels, even.

Mikan Watch #135: Gingitsune

From episode one of Gingitsune, hidden in the entryway there. My singular note on this one from when it was airing was “leave posting about this until we see if there’s a better shot in a later episode” – given the number of actual oranges in the show it would seem something likely to occur – but I guess I promptly stopped watching and forgot all about it. Whoops.
